About this opera rebroadcast

Captivating soprano Nadine Sierra stars is the self-sacrificing courtesan Violetta, one of opera’s ultimate heroines. Tenor Stephen Costello is her self-centered lover Alfredo, alongside baritone Luca Salsi, as his disapproving father. Michael Mayer’s vibrant production of Verdi’s beloved tragedy also features Maestro Daniele Callegari on the podium.

La Traviata intimate scope and subject matter inspired Verdi to create some of his most profound and heartfelt music. The title role of the “fallen woman” has captured the imaginations of audiences and performers alike with its inexhaustible vocal and dramatic possibilities—and challenges. Violetta is considered a pinnacle of the soprano repertoire.

La Traviata is sung in Italian, but English SURTITLES™ will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

The performance lasts approximately 3 hours with two 20-minutes intermission.

Event logistics

This rebroadcast will take place at the Empress Walk Cineplex (5095 Yonge St 3rd Floor) on Saturday, November 26 starting at NOON. The box office opens at 11:30. We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes before showtime to the 3rd floor lobby to get your ticket, and meet with EACTN friends.

The continued use of face masks is strongly recommended while attending  the event at Theater #8 of Cineplex. While not mandatory, wearing a mask is a small measure that we can all take to keep ourselves and audience communities safe.

For the first couple of opera rebroadcasts, we are not planning an Après-Opera program. We want to see how this event unfolds. However, for those interested to socialize or have a post-opera chat we can stick around in the lobby, after we get a coffee or other refreshment at the concession stand. Your organizer will be happy to shepherd this group event and organise refreshments ahead or time. So let us know ahead of time if you plan to participate.

The Empress Walk Cineplex is accessible by subway from the North York Centre  TTC station. Parking is available under the building, entrance is from Hillcrest Ave; first 3 hrs free, 4th hour at $1, then regular rates.
