Come and join us to this Metropolitan Opera rebroadcast in High Definition of “The Hours” by Kevin Puts.
This is MET’s world-premiere opera production of The Hours, adapted from Michael Cunningham’s acclaimed novel. Inspired by Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway and made a household name by the Oscar-winning 2002 film version starring Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore, and Nicole Kidman. The powerful story follows three women from different eras who each grapple with their inner demons and their roles in society. Music is by Pulitzer Prize–winning composer Kevin Puts. This exciting premiere radiates with star power divas: Rene Fleming, Kelli O’Hara and Joyce DiDonato appearing as the opera’s trio of heroines. Phelim McDermott directs this compelling drama, with Canadian Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin on the podium to conduct Puts’s poignant and powerful score.
The Hours is sung in English, and English SURTITLES™ will also be displayed at the bottom of the screen.
The performance lasts approximately 3.3 hours with one 20-minutes intermission.
Deadline for registration is Saturday January 14, 2023

Event logistics
This rebroadcast will take place at the Empress Walk Cineplex (5095 Yonge St 3rd Floor) on Saturday, January 21 2023 starting at NOON. The box office opens at 11:30. We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes before showtime to the 3rd floor lobby to get your ticket, and meet with EACTN friends.
The continued use of face masks is strongly recommended while attending the event at Theater #8 of Cineplex. While not mandatory, wearing a mask is a small measure that we can all take to keep ourselves and audience communities safe.
For the first couple of opera rebroadcasts, we are not planning an Après-Opera program. We want to see how this event unfolds. However, for those interested to socialize or have a post-opera chat we can stick around in the lobby, after we get a coffee or other refreshment at the concession stand. Your organizer will be happy to shepherd this group event and organise refreshments ahead or time. So let us know ahead of time if you plan to participate.
The Empress Walk Cineplex is accessible by subway from the North York Centre TTC station. Parking is available under the building, entrance is from Hillcrest Ave; first 3 hrs free, 4th hour at $1, then regular rates.
Registration deadline is Saturday, January 14, 2023.
