For the past four years, EACTN has been offering its members a unique cultural experience for those who love good music, good story, big voices, big drama, big settings, poetry, visual arts and dance; all combined into a “musical show” called OPERA.

Opera is a multidisciplinary theatrical art form that began in the Renaissance Italy (late 16^th century), driven by humanists seeking to revive Ancient Greek dramatic traditions.

Opera evolved over several distinct periods. Majority of the operas are from the Romantic Nineteen Century. But its art is evolving to this day; there are many new operas being staged to fascinate old and new audience worldwide.

The Met: Live in HD is a groundbreaking series of live opera broadcasts transmitted via satellite from the Metropolitan Opera stage in New York to movie theaters globally. Launched in December 2006, it revolutionized performing arts access and has become a massive international success.

VIP Experience: Attending Met in HD is a unique and most special VIP experience. Ten to twelve high-definition cameras are used to relay the live performances, including closeups that magnify artistry and intimacy of the performance. Additional handheld cameras are used backstage to provide a fishbowl view of the behind-the-scene action, from divas in their dressing rooms, interviews with the artists (singers, directors, producers, designers) to stagehands maneuvering tons of scenery between acts.

Encores: For those unable to attend the LIVE broadcasts, theaters typically run scheduled encores at later dates. The LIVE broadcasts are in much higher demand then the ENCORES. Tickets to LIVE broadcasts sell out quickly months in advance. Tickets availability on the day of the show is much better for the ENCOR broadcasts, and for that reason EACTN event organizer offers those performances to our members.

These MET in HD Opera events provide opportunity to enjoy an excellent entertainment at a modest price with Esso Friends at a Cineplex Central Location(s) and offer an optional Apres Opera gathering for drinks, finger foods, and socializing in nearby establishments such as The Keg.

Currently we offer five operas per season that typically starts in November and ends in May. To date we offered 22 operas to EACTN members, all listed in the enclosed link (Opera Season).

An e-mail is sent out in September to ALL EACTN members to announce the new season offerings and to solicit interest in receiving further notifications on individual events.

An e-mail is sent out about 3 weeks before the event to solicit expressions of interest. A brief description of the event and logistical details is also provided at the time.
