Growing old is something you should prepare for - for yourself, your spouse or other family and friends. Since growing old is not optional, neither should be preparing for it.
Come join in for a very relevant presentation and discussion with Karen Henderson who has agreed to speak to our group on the subject of "Preparing for the Aging Process”, with a focus on three key considerations:
- how to plan to live and age successfully at home
- how to plan for a move (to a care facility of some description)
- dealing with dementia; what are my options?
Karen founded the Long Term Care Planning Network after a 14 year dementia care experience for her father. She has over 25 years of experience speaking in the fields of aging and long term care. Karen has been featured on television, radio and in Canada’s major newspapers and has sat on numerous not-for-profit / government committees concerned with aging, Alzheimer’s disease, elder abuse and end-of-life issues. Her work also includes writing articles for a number of different organizations including Health Canada, the government of Ontario and the Alzheimer’s Society.
Karen takes a proactive approach around preventative care to educate elders, family members and their advisors on how to avoid chronic illness; take control of their lives and live out their lives independently with dignity. In contrast, the Canadian healthcare system is all about reactive medicine - dealing with patients after they have become ill.
I’m sure that you will find his discussion worthwhile and applicable in one way or another.
The registration deadline is 5pm on Sunday October 11th.
One day before the event, Zoom details will be sent to those who have registered. The Zoom session will open up at 9:30AM to allow some time to chat before the session.
