GTA Transportation Update 2025 @ Via Zoom
Mar 12 @ 10:00 – 11:30

Ontario Line Bridge

Do not register for this event before February 19, 2025

Peter Miasek, President Transport Action Ontario and fellow IOL annuitant will present his overview of the GTA transportation status and outlook. This is an update to the presentation he made to EACTN in November, 2023

With rapid population growth and high traffic congestion, there is a need to build more transportation capacity in the Toronto region.  Lead by the Province, many good new public transit projects and betterments are underway, but more are needed.  The Province is also planning controversial new expressways – the Bradford Bypass, Highway 413, potentially a tunnel under Highway 401 and potentially reduced tolls on Highway 407.

The new expressways are facing significant public opposition, as research has shown they just fill up again due to the phenomenon of induced demand, and have environmental and community impacts.  Boosting transit in the GTA is not without its challenges. Operating funding has not kept pace with the need to maintain and improve service, while capital costs for new projects are skyrocketing.

Peter will summarize the exciting and complex status and future of public transit and expressways in the Toronto Region.  This will be an informative update to a topic on the minds of many who are living through transportation related construction projects and their associated delays.

Peter is actively involved in numerous advocacy initiatives for sustainable transportation and improved urban planning including the Unionville Residents’ Association and the Markham Cycling  and Pedestrian Advisory Committee.

This is a free event but please register to attend.  If after registering you find that you are unable to attend, please let the organizer know by sending an email to members@eactn.ca

The ZOOM link will be sent to those who are registered the day before the presentation. The ZOOM session will open at 9:30am (half hour earlier) to allow some time to chat before the presentation. You can find a document on how to use Zoom here.

Spring Theatrical Bus Trip to Stratford – Wednesday May 7, 2025 @ Stratford Avon Theatre
May 7 @ 08:00 – 19:00

DO NOT REGISTER FOR THIS EVENT BEFORE FEBRUARY 10, 2025 !!

The Esso Annuitant Club Toronto North is excited to announce its spring theatrical bus trip to the Stratford Theatre:

Musical

“IT WAS JOY, IT WAS SUBLIME, A SPLENDID WAY TO EARN A DIME.”

Lawrence Jameson is no stranger to the high life—he’s lived it for years by separating lonely rich ladies from their fortunes in a swanky Riviera town. When he and his chief competitor in the con business, Freddy Benson, make a bet to swindle an heiress out of $50,000, the professional scoundrels soon discover they may not always be the smartest people in the room. Inspired by the hit 1988 film Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, the musical comedy earned 11 Tony Award nominations for its hilarious hijinks and frivolity—beautifully reminiscent of an earlier age.

2025 – Opera Outing – Le Nozze di Figaro – MET rebroadcast @ Empress Walk Cineplex
May 10 @ 12:00 – 15:30

Come and join us on May 10, 2025 to the MET in HD rebroadcast of Le Nozze di FIGARO .

  • Do not register for this event before April 17, 2025

Le Nozze di Figaro is a remarkable marriage of Mozart’s music at the height of his genius and one of the best librettos ever set. In adapting a play that caused a scandal with its revolutionary take on 18th-century society, librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte focused less on the original topical references and more on the timeless issues embedded in the frothy drawing-room scenes. It is a profoundly humane comedy.

World premiere: Burgtheater, Vienna, 1786.

The opera is sung in Italian with English surtitles. The performance lasts 3 hours and 30 minutes that includes one 30 minute intermission.
